Introduction
For those who have been members of the school before, it is a time
when they are amongst friends who are all keen to do well. It is a time
when they can develop and strengthen relationships with staff in their
small Sixth Form classes. Those new to the school, and transfer at this
stage is increasingly popular, will be made extremely welcome
by staff and peers alike. For whatever reason they enter the Sixth Form,
the opportunities are there for students to work hard, to receive
first-class teaching in small groups and to be part of an Our aim is to produce well qualified, sensible young people who have enjoyed their school days and are well prepared for the challenges of life after leaving school. Entry Procedure Entry into the Sixth Form is usually dependent on having gained five or more respectable GCSE passes, with evidence of interest and ability in the field chosen for Sixth Form study. In the case of direct-entry to the Sixth Form, an offer will be made following an interview and the taking-up of school references. Scholarships are based on interviews, references and written papers. Prospective Sixth formers and their parents are invited to attend an Open Evening. Further details of the entry procedure are available in the printed prospectus. Academic Structure We follow the new examination specifications which, for most subjects, divide the work for the Sixth Form into six parts or modules. The first three modules comprise the A/S examination. Students will generally study four subjects to this level with some papers taken November and the rest in June of the Lower Sixth. The second three modules in any subject form the A2 examination. Upper Sixth students will usually follow three of their four A/Ss to this level, though other combinations of A/S and A2 qualifications are possible. The examinations are generally taken in November and June of the final year. Subjects The following subjects are just some of those available: |
