Mr Spencer – the recently retired former Head of Sixth Form – presented an assembly this morning to raise awareness of two charities he is involved in. The first, is ‘Tools with a Mission’. This is a Christian Charity that puts together ‘kits’ for carpentry, electrics, gardening, mechanics, plumbing and more with the aim of providing ‘livelihoods in a box’. The charity also collects textbooks for classrooms study, among other items detailed in the web link below. The charity transports to Zambia, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa and beyond. Year 10 and Year 9 pupils were supportive in loading up Mr Spencer’s car with Science and Maths books – leaving him to consider purchasing a larger vehicle, such was the volume!
If you have any unused tools that could be used in the kits outlined in the website, please let Miss Dunsmore know and Mr Spencer is happy to arrange a collection.
Furthermore, Mr Spencer also gave pupils more information on our recently-launched Chernobyl appeal. We are looking for about 10 pupils who will be happy to give up some of their time this term and on Friday 21st July to produce a music workshop for the children affected by the 1986 Chernobyl disaster. The recuperative month away from Belarus helps to improve the life expectancy and condition of the children and visiting Thetford Grammar School for this music workshop is just one of many days being planned for the visitors. Early thoughts are to design a Carnival Samba-esque day. Watch this space for more updates.
