TGS Sixth Formers benefit from a wide range of choice in courses, small teaching groups and careful tutoring.
The progress of each pupil is carefully monitored by their form tutor and the Head of Sixth Form. Regular progress reports are sent to parents and tutors guide their tutees through university entry procedures. The Head of Sixth Form also offers a UCAS introduction session to parents at the end of Y12.
Most pupils in Y12 study 4 AS-level subjects in Year 12 and continue with 3 of these to A-level in Year 13. However, we review individual cases and there are some pupils who take five A-Levels and some who take less.
There are currently 22 AS- and A-level subjects on offer at TGS. We always try to accommodate all requested combinations.
* Psychology is a subject which is delivered by distance-learning and supported by weekly tutorials in school. It is not essential to have studied a GCSE course.
All pupils will attend 7 lessons each week per AS-level subject and 8 lessons at A2; they should then be spending a further 5 to 6 hours per week on private study for each subject.
Other timetabled sessions include games and an Academic, Personal and Professional Studies (APPS) development programme embracing key skills, careers and current affairs across a wide spectrum of areas. Pupils can also add other lessons to their timetable and work towards extra qualifications – Extended Project Qualification, Speech & Drama and musical instruments.
