Demand for jobs with Science, Engineering and Technology skills is set to grow by 2.4 million by 2014 – and all these jobs require maths skills. Highly numerate disciplines are in great demand from employers – young people with maths qualifications will find that their degrees can open doors to exciting and rewarding careers.
Further Maths is an AS-Level or an A-Level qualification which both broadens and deepens the maths covered in A-Level Maths. Further Maths is taken alongside an AS or A Level in Maths.
AS level Further Mathematics is designed to be learnt alongside AS level Maths in year 12, or taken up as a new AS subject alongside A2 Mathematics in year 13.
For AS level Further Maths you take 3 additional units, one of which is a Further Pure Maths unit and the other two are often two application units, such as Mechanics, Statistics or Decision Mathematics.
For A level Further Maths you take 6 additional units, two of which are Further Pure Maths units and the other four could be all application units, such as Mechanics, Statistics or Decision Maths, or a combination of Further Pure and Applied units.
